This past month has filled my heart with renewed hope. The outpouring of support for Keys through your heartfelt messages, generous donations, and countless volunteer hours has been extraordinary. In a world that can feel pretty divided, we've shown what we're really about - we look out for each other. It's reinforced what I've always believed: we're generous people who want to help when someone needs it. I am thankful for your partnership and friendship in spreading love and hope!

What happens when a small New Jersey town decides to break down barriers with the power of music? Pure magic, as proven by the recent Americana TV Nostalgia Experience that had over 80 people singing, laughing, and connecting across generations—with even more joining via livestream for the first time in Keys history.
The New Providence United Methodist Church co-hosted this memorable event, transforming their space into a warm, welcoming venue where every person who walked through the door was greeted with genuine smiles and enthusiasm. Their generous hospitality, including delicious homemade hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and desserts for all attendees, set the tone for an unforgettable afternoon.
Local support poured in from hometown heroes: The New Providence Lions Club stepped up as event sponsor, and Elefante Music joined as a Tune Sponsor.

In a state where communities often remain divided by zip codes and socioeconomic lines, New Providence is writing a different story. People from different backgrounds came together organically – playing music, rehearsing, setting up equipment, decorating the venue, sharing laughter, and making plans for the future. The walls that typically separate us simply disappeared.
The afternoon became even more meaningful as students took the stage to share personal testimonies about how music has transformed their lives. These powerful moments reminded everyone why this work matters.
Four Urban Fellows received special recognition awards for their outstanding contributions to Keys 2 Success, celebrating the young leaders who are helping to bring flourishing to their communities.

Keys 2 Success is proving that impactful change doesn't rely on millionaire donors. Instead, hundreds of individual supporters from all zip codes, from teenagers to retirees, are giving what they can to power this movement.
This event marked several exciting firsts:
-
Keys students performed their first-ever themed show, marking a milestone moment for the organization and showcasing the growth of young musicians.
-
More than 80 attendees didn't just watch a performance—they actively participated by making music together and creating an interactive celebration where everyone contributed to the experience.
-
The organization's first-ever livestream expanded the circle of connection beyond physical walls, allowing over a dozen supporters to participate via Zoom and experience the performance from afar.
-
Six musicians from New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra volunteered their time to rehearse and perform alongside students, elevating our collaboration and musical partnership.
-
The partnership with New Providence United Methodist Church deepened far beyond providing space—members spent countless hours preparing for the event, lending equipment, and becoming truly invested in our students' success.
In an era of division, this event proved that the solution to our biggest challenges might be simpler than we think: show up, share music, open our hearts to one another, and make sure everyone can join in!

The Family I Found in Music
|
I was five years old
when my hands first found the piano.
The keys felt bigger than me,
but somehow, they already knew me.
Every note was a secret,
every chord, a hand to hold.
What began as sound
slowly became home.
A place I could breathe,
a place I could grow.
My teachers—
they have been like a second mother,
like an aunt who never lets go.
They didn’t just teach me music,
they taught me patience,
they taught me strength,
they taught me to believe in myself
when I forgot how.
And the students—
they are the siblings I never had.
The older ones guiding me forward,
the younger ones reminding me
what it means to start with wonder.
We lift each other,
we listen,
we learn.
This is more than a program.
It is a family.
It is where my heart rests.
It is where the piano
isn’t just an instrument—
it is love,
it is belonging,
it is me.

I don't usually use this newsletter to talk about my own activities, but in this case it felt appropriate to share an experience that perfectly illustrates what I hope for all our Keys students.
I recently took the stage at The Piano Pod LIVE event at Mannes Prep at The New School, where I had the extraordinary honor of performing alongside renowned pianists whose contributions to the musical world far exceed my own. Donna Weng Friedman was selected as one of Musical America's Top 30 Professionals of 2024 for her outstanding contribution to the performing arts. Eleonor Bindman has recorded the complete piano works of numerous composers and performs in the world's most prestigious venues. Dr. Nnenna Ogwo brilliantly bridges classical performance with innovative educational initiatives that are transforming how young people access music.
Despite my Juilliard Pre-College training, I chose community transformation over a traditional performance career. Yet here I was, sharing the stage with these luminaries—proof that music opens doors and leads to opportunities we never dream of. This is exactly my hope for our Keys students: that music will take them places they can't yet imagine, whether that's concert halls, classrooms, boardrooms, or community centers.
The afternoon became extra special with my entire family there and friends who traveled from afar—a beautiful reflection of the community that Keys 2 Success has built. Event creator Yukimi Song brilliantly wove together piano, education, and journalism to create something beyond a concert—it was an invitation to listen, share, and experience together
The Piano Pod will premiere the full video recording on YouTube on Tuesday October 28 at 8PM ET. I hope you'll watch this afternoon where music, storytelling, and social impact converged in perfect harmony—and where I was reminded once again that music's true power lies in the unexpected doors it opens.
